The 10th edition of the Polokwane Municipality annual Mayoral Charity Golf Day was launched at the Polokwane Golf Club on Thursday.
The Mayoral Charity Golf Day aims to raise funds towards Mayoral Bursary Fund to assist needy tertiary students and charity organisations that operate within the municipal area.
Speaking to the media at the launch, Polokwane Executive Mayor Cllr John Mpe said the municipality prides itself for associating with the cause to empower the youth through quality education.
“We are here to launch the Charity Golf Day in celebrating our 10th anniversary. It was started in 2011 and we are really celebrating the milestone that it has achieved. Having benefited 200+ beneficiaries of young ones who wanted to get quality tertiary education. So, we are here to celebrate this milestone,” said Mpe.
“The importance of partnership with the business community in order to uplift the poorest of the poor with regard to education. As you know education is one single most important issue that can actually take our people out of poverty and also a socio-economic development in the City of Polokwane and in our country as a whole,” he said.
Since its inception in 2011, the annual Mayoral Charity Golf has benefited more than 250 students. The 10th edition will take place on Friday, 10 December at Polokwane Golf Course.
