Police in Mahwelereng, Mokopane have arrested a 30-year-old male suspect for livestock theft and recovered 13 cattle at Tshamahandzi, Ga-Madiba village on Thursday, 17 March 2022 at about 11:00.

The suspect was arrested following an intelligence-driven joint operation by members of Polokwane Crime Intelligence Unit. Polokwane and Mahwelereng Stock theft and Endangered Species (STES) Unit.

This after information was received about 14 cattle stolen around Mapela and Bakenburg. Subsequently, an investigation led to the said area and police recovered 13 cattle and discovered that one was already slaughtered.

Some of the livestock was positively identified by the owners on the same day. The rest was taken to a pound in Polokwane pending the identification from the lawful owners.

The suspect, Piet Ndlovu appeared in Mahwelereng magistrate’s court on 18 March 2022. He was released on R1 500 bail pending further police investigations.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers commended the Police for the swift arrest and recovery of the alleged stolen livestock.

“We urge livestock owners and farmers to take extra care of their animals. Ensure that they are all brand-marked so that they can be able to identify them after the police have recovered them, concluded Major General Scheepers.
