SATMA Awards in partnership with the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation in Mpumalanga hosted another successful announcement of Nominees for the year 2022 on Saturday, 30 July at Emalahleni, Witbank.

The event was attended by the public and prestigious guests. The different artists and musicians came out in their numbers to show their love and support. All those in attendance, took this opportunity to wear their traditional attire and heritage with pride. The red carpet was full of colour and reflected the rainbow nation.

Fashion Kulture dazzled the red carpet with their elegant designs and a touch of Africa. The audience were kept on their feet as the performing artist gave stunning performances. Singer Nomfundo Moh, Karabo Mogane and Rockzie gave a breath taking performance.

The National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Fannie Masemola has directed the Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe to mobilise maximum resources to apprehend those responsible for the killing of the Mayor of the Collins Chabane Local Municipality in Limpopo.

56-year-old Moses ‘Big Moss’ Maluleke was shot and killed on Thursday evening at his home, and his 18-year-old son wounded.

COLLINS CHABANE MAYOR KILLING

According to reports, three unknown suspects entered the Mayor’s home in Saselamani village at 19:00 where they demanded money from the deceased mayor and his son. When the pair could not comply with the suspects’ instructions, they were allegedly shot at by the trio.

THE SON SURVIVES HORRIFIC SCENE

The mayor succumbed to his injuries on scene and his son survived. The son was was transported to a nearby hospital where he is receiving further medical care. A case of murder and attempted murder has been registered. Police have since launched a manhunt for the group of suspects.

A 27 year old Constable attached to Roedtan police station allegedly went to a rental apartment. He reportedly found a woman believed to be his girlfriend in the company of another man. He then confronted them and shot them dead before turning the gun on himself.

POLICE CONSTABLE COMMITS SUICIDE  

All three persons were certified dead on the scene. The Policeman’s service pistol was found on the scene. It is not clear at this stage what prompted the incident but domestic related challenges cannot be ruled out.

POLICE CONDEMN INCIDENT 

“Our members are urged to make use of available internal helping professionals whose responsibility is to look after the employees health and wellness issues and desist from resorting to extreme violence when dealing with challenges,” concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.

The Police have opened cases of two counts of murder and one count of inquest. Investigations are continuing.

The vehicle dealership salesperson aged 41 and his 26 year-old accomplice have been arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation members for alleged fraud on Saturday, 16 July 2022.

It is alleged that during April this year, a vehicle dealership salesperson based in Makhado facilitated the process of vehicle finance application for the client who is an accomplice.

VEHICLE DEALERSHIP FRAUD

It is further alleged that the client did not meet the requirements. But he was assisted by the salesperson to get the deal on a Toyota Avanza. It was worth R573 759-56 approved through ABSA bank.

After the deal was successfully approved and the vehicle was delivered to the client. The bank realized that the documents were fraudulent.

CASE OPENED AGAINST CULPRIT

The case was opened and referred to the Hawks for further Investigation.

Both suspects are expected to appear in the Makhado Magistrate’s court on Monday, 18 July 2022. They face charges of fraud and forgery.

The effects of loadshedding are still felt on water supply in areas within Polokwane Municipality, Capricorn District.

Challenges experienced by Lepelle Northern Water on both Olifantspoort and Ebenezer plants are taking part on the situation.

POLOKWANE MUNICIPALITY WATER ISSUE

Ebenezer Plant is currently not pumping water to Municipality due to, according to Lepelle Northern Water, “pump station 3 (ps3) failure”. The water utility said Eskom is aware of the challenge.

AREAS AFFECTED

Most areas of Polokwane are experiencing water shortage. Those include, amongst others, upper areas of Flora Park, Sterpark and Moregloed. Madiba Park, Legae la Batho, Zones 2, 3, 7 and 8 in Seshego and Extensions 71, 73, 75, and 76.

Areas not mentioned here but experiencing water supply challenges are advised to report promptly to Water and Sanitation helpline so that the municipality can come to their aid.

Two more suspects aged 28 and 43 have been arrested by the Hawks‘ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation members in Johannesburg on Saturday in relation to theft of over R36 million belonging to the First National Bank (FNB) deceased client.

The suspects who are a couple allegedly received R6 million from one of the suspects in this case. The couple started to fight over the money when the sender requested it back.

SUSPECTS ARRESTED OVER DECEASED BANK CLIENT

When the girlfriend went to the police in Johannesburg to open a case of assault against her boyfriend, the police discovered that the money they were fighting for was actually stolen and Limpopo Hawks were investigating the matter. The Hawks were alerted. They found that R5.5 million of the R6 million that they had received was already returned back to the sender.

On 10 June 2022, the FNB employee, Thabiso Matenda (Malawian) based in Makhado was arrested by the same team. He allegedly stole R36 989 051-67 belonging to the bank client.

It is alleged that on 25 April 2022 Matenda opened a profile of the client who had just died in a vehicle accident a day before (24 April 2022) without authorization.

SPENDING MONEY BELONGING TO THE LATE

It is further alleged that the accused connived with his accomplice to open a new bank account, linked it to the deceased’s account and started spending all the money from the deceased’s account.

The bank discovered the shenanigans and reported the matter to the Hawks. Some of the stolen money was allegedly donated to a certain church. Matenda is still in police custody after his bail was successfully opposed.

The couple is expected to appear in the Makhado Magistrate’s court on 18 July 2022. The investigation is still ongoing and more arrests are expected.

Founder and leader of In His Presence Ministries Church, Pastor Walter Mashalane (46) has been given a five years jail term by the Senwabarwana Regional court for theft of firearms, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The sentence was handed down by the Limpopo court on Friday 15 July 2022.

The trial court found that accused approached one of his congregants and requested that she brings two firearms which were belonging to her husband with the intention of praying for them because he said he had a negative premonitions about them in 2019.

PASTOR HANDED 5 YEAR JAIL TERM

The woman complied and handed the two firearms to Pastor Mashalane without the knowledge of the lawful owner. Afterwards, the lawful owner approached the Pastor and asked him to hand them back but he refused.

A case of theft of firearms was subsequently opened and was later transferred to the Provincial Detectives for investigation.

TASK TEAM TO INVESTIGATE

The case was assigned to Sergeant Mashitisho for further investigations. Assisted by members of the Provincial Tracking Team, the Pastor was apprehended on 10 September 2019 at Mokhuromela village.

During the arrest, police found one firearm with ammunition concealed inside a ceiling after a thorough probe in the house. The other firearm was never recovered. The accused was later granted a free bail with a warning until his five year imprisonment on the said day and also declared to unfit to possess a firearm.

Three teenagers, two boys and a girl were confirmed dead in an accident on the R81 road next to Xikukwani village, Mopani.

This is after the bakkie they were traveling in lost control due to suspected reckless driving.

The only survivor has been transported to Nkhensani Hospital for medical attention.

THREE TEENAGERS DIE IN AN ACCIDENT

Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC, Polly Boshielo shas sent condolences to the bereaved families.

“This is a second accident in Mopani District that has claimed lives over this weekend. It is a cause for concern.

“We continue to plead with motorists to obey the rules of the road, for them to arrive alive at their respective destinations” said MEC Boshielo.

Eight people were confirmed dead, while others are seriously injured during a multi vehicle accident in Phalaborwa, Limpopo. The accident involved a stuck Nissan bakkie carrying thirteen people. It was hit by an Isuzu heavy motor vehicle and a Toyota Quantum minibus traveling in the opposite direction along the D3260 road towards Seloane on Friday night.

PHALABORWA MULTI VEHICLE ACCIDENT CLAIMS LIVES 

Seven people died on the spot, and one also died on the way to the hospital. Other injured people were also taken to Maphutha Malatji Hospital in Namakgale.

Speeding and reckless driving are cited as possible causes of the accident.

MEC BOSHIELO SEND HER CONDOLENCES 

Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC, Polly Boshielo has sent messages of condolences to the families of the deceased.

“We are saddened by these fatalities and send our deepest condolences to the families that are affected in this tragic incident. We plead with motorists to obey the rules of the road, for them to arrive at their respective destinations alive and sound.

It cannot be right that motorists become impatient to the point where lives are also lost in this manner. We have to at all times, obey and follow rules to the latter. It’s the only way to arrive alive and also save lives,” said MEC Boshielo.

After a two-year hiatus, since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and declaration of the state of disaster, several sectors were severely affected including the Limpopo tourism sector, which was the most affected after several months without operation.

South African Institute of Agricultural Engineers (SAIAE) in partnership with South African National Convention Bureau (SANCB) and Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) present the much-anticipated CPD (Continuous Professional Development) accredited Biennial Symposium 2022.
