Polokwane based businessman and Philanthropist Sarel Nong has explained the decision to add a Golf Day to their already exciting Kilimanjaro soccer tournament.
The Kilimanjaro tournament was first launched five years ago to help the needy in and around the communities of Polokwane. It was founded by the founding member of Sapa Yopa MCC, Nong.
Nong is known for his humble nature of giving to those that are less privileged. The first annual Kilimanjaro Golf Day will be held at Polokwane Golf club on 25 November 2022.
WHY KILIMANJARO GOLF DAY
The Golf Day will also create job opportunities specifically for caddies and business people in the area of Polokwane. Nong Revealed to Limpopo Chronicle, why they saw a need to add another sporting code.
“The Kilimanjaro Golf Day is born out of the Kilimanjaro Soccer Tournament. So each and every year for the past five years we celebrated the soccer tournament,” he said.
“We decided to start the Kilimanjaro Golf Day so that we can celebrate with the sponsors and the business people of Polokwane. This will also offer young upcoming golfers that we are designing a program to train them about golf.”
DATES CONFIRMED
This year the tournament will also be on the same weekend with the Golf Day taking place on a Friday. The soccer tournament on Sunday, 27 November.
“During the golf day, the department of Sports, Arts and Culture MEC or the premier of Limpopo will open the golf day. It will be the beautiful day that we are all waiting for and we are excited that we have managed to sell all 18 holes.
“Golf is referred to as a gentlemen’s game, so gentlemen of Polokwane, it’s time to show your gentle side and become the teachers on the greens of the Polokwane Golf Club. Ladies, dust off those golf clubs. There are many prizes up for grabs for the first three winning teams,” he said.
