Limpopo MEC for the department of Education Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya is saddened by the report of the death of seven learners. They were killed in a horrific multi-vehicle Groblersdal accident on Friday. The crash happened on the R579 road at Motetema outside Sekhukhune District.
The learners were in a minibus taxi going to school when their transport collided with a truck and another kombi.
LEARNERS PERRISH IN GROBLERSDAL ACCIDENT
The learners were transported to three schools in Groblersdal. 16 people were reported dead and seven were learners from three different schools.

Seven learners are still receiving medical attention in two hospitals and two others who escaped with minor injuries have been discharged.
MEC MAVHUNGU LERULE-RAMAKHANYA SENDS A MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCES
The MEC has sent messages of condolences to the families of the learners and speedy recovery wishes to the injured.
“I am deeply saddened by the sudden loss of so many young people who perished on their way to school,” said MEC Lelule-Ramakhanya.
“I can only imagine what their families are going through and I am devastated by the loss and this will surely affect all our children from the affected schools.

“We will work very closely with the Department of Social Development to ensure that both the families and learners receive proper psychosocial support,” she said.
The MEC has also called on scholar transporters to be cautious when ferrying learners to various schools in the province.
