The 26-year-old man who attempted to rape a 39-year-old woman who is also his neighbour in Modimolle, Limpopo was condemned to prison after being found guilty of attempting to rape. He was sentenced to an effective six-year imprisonment when he appeared before the Modimolle Regional Court this week.

The Court heard how the accused attempted to rape a woman, who is also his neighbour on Friday 12 November 2021. She was walking alone at night on the street in Modimolle Extension 9 just next to R101 Provincial Road.
MODIMOLLE MAN SENTED FOR ATTEMPTING TO RAPE HIS NEIGHBOUR
It is reported that the victim was rescued by a motorist who was driving along R101 road. When he noticed the struggle between the accused and the victim who was also shouting for help.
CULPRIT TO BE INCLUDED IN THE REGISTER FOR SEXUAL OFFENDERS
The accused who cannot be named to protect the victim. This is because they are neighbours was declared by the Court unfit to possess a firearm. His particulars are to be included in the Register for Sexual Offenders.
The case of attempting to rape was meticulously investigated by Sergeant Motlatjo Tukakgomo of Modimolle Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the conviction. Subsequent sentencing and comended the member for the good work done.
