The 16 victims of the horrific Motetema accident were laid to rest during a Mass funeral at Tafelkop Stadium, Elias Motsoaledi Municipality on Saturday.
The sixteen people were killed on road R579 near Groblersdal, Limpopo on Friday, 03 March at around 07:00 am.

Four light vehicles and three taxis traveling in the direction of Groblersdal were involved in an accident with a truck traveling towards the direction of Motetema.
DRIVER ERROR CITED FOR MOTETEMA ACCIDENT
Driver error was cited as the second minibus attempted overtaking. He collided with the truck that was heading to Mototema’s direction, affecting the two other cars. As a result, 15 people lost lives on the scene and the other person perished in hospital.
MECs for Health, Transport and Community Safety, Sekhukhune District Mayor and Road Accident Fund have since visited the families. They offered words of comfort, condolences and support until their loved ones are laid to rest.

The funeral was attended by amongst others Limpopo MEC for Treasury Seaparo Sekoati, on behalf of Premier Stanley Mathabatha.
On behalf of the government and the people of Limpopo. I wish to extend our heartfelt and deepest condolences to the families, colleagues, and friends who have lost their loved ones during this incident,” said Sekoati during the keynote address.

“We do admit that no amount of words can heal your broken hearts and mend your heavy souls under these difficult moments. Therefore we pray for God’s comfort and grace to you all in this time of your need.

“We are aware that amongst the 16 victims of this carnage we are laying to rest today, seven are learners,” he said.
“We know you were still expecting a lot from your children and friends. That was the case to us as community members and government leaders. A loss of a young child robs us of a potential that they possessed to contribute to the bright future of their lives, their families, and the nation at large.”
