Rapist and murderer Thabo Bester was re-arrested in Tanzania on Friday, According to several reports.
Bester, who is dubbed the ‘Facebook rapist, escaped from the Mangaung Correctional Centre in Bloemfontein in May 2022. It was initially believed he had committed suicide by setting himself alight in his cell.
However, the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), which originally declared him dead, confirmed that the charred body found in his cell was not that of the convicted murderer and rapist.

He has been alive and at large for the last nine months.
Police Minister Bheki Cele has always been confident that they will find Bester who has been on the run.
“We will find Bester, we are getting good news. I had people yesterday trying to ridicule police when we raided his house,” he said at the time.
“Sometimes, people don’t understand investigations, things, clues that we get there,” said Cele.
THABO BESTER ARRESTED IN TANZANIA
Three people were arrested last night in Arusha for being in the country illegally. They are currently detained at Arusha Central Police Station. Among the arrested, two were suspected to be Thabo Bester Dr Nandipha Magudumana.
National police commissioner Lt-Gen Fannie Masemola is set to brief the nation following the reports.
