The Premier of Limpopo Province, Chupu Stanley Mathabatha has sent a message of condolences to the family of late SABC Newsreader Matome Maupi. The 52-year-old passed away on Thursday, 13 April.

It is said he struggled with a long illness. He was working for Thobela FM Current Affairs Show, Hlokwa la Tsela at the time of his passing.

Mathabatha also recognised Maupi’s dedication to holding the government accountable and his contribution to journalism and broadcasting in South Africa through his work.

“Maupi’s courteous and respectful demeanour earned him the hearts of many. His unwavering commitment to reporting on issues that were crucial to society’s well-being will never be forgotten,” said Mathabatha.

“His passion and dedication to journalism also leave behind a legacy that will continue to inspire many generations to come.


The Premier of Limpopo Province, with the rest of the province, embraces the family with love during this difficult time. He wishes them comfort and strength as they mourn their loss,” he added.

“May his spirit continue to guide us always.”

The SABC is yet to communicate the details of his funeral or memorial services.
