The Province of Limpopo on Wednesday hosted the Netball World Cup 100 days countdown through a mini-world cup. This comes as the 19th of April marks 100 days to go to the Vitality Netball World Cup 2023 which is scheduled to be hosted on African soil for the first time.

The event was held at Ngoako Ramatlhodi Sports Centre in Seshego, outside of Polokwane. It forms part of events held by various provinces to mark 100 Days to Go. Spearheaded by various Provincial Governments and Municipalities.  

Limpopo’s edition was led by MEC for Sport, Arts, and Culture, Ms. Nakedi Kekana, MEC for Education Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya and Netball SA vice-President Mami Diale.

“This is just to familiarise ourselves with the activities as a build-up to the 2023 Netball World Cup,” said MEC Kekana.

“So as we are doing this we are unlocking an awareness to all the people that the same way they did before the 2010 FIFA World Cup. It must also be the same with the Netball World Cup.

“More especially because it’s a female World Cup that is played in our continent for the first time in 60 years. So this one is a victory for women in particular. Everyone must support these games and make sure that every Friday they wear the Netball t-shirt. The very same way that we also did with the football World Cup. This is part of nation building,” she alluded.

The Limpopo event was held in collaboration with Netball SA, the Limpopo Sport Confederation. The Limpopo Academy of Sport and also the Limpopo Netball Federation.

The World Cup will be held in Cape Town from 28th July-6th August 2023 in Cape Town International Convention Centre. 16 of the world’s top netball nations, including the hosts South Africa will also be competing.
