A 36-year-old father was arrested on Sunday after he accidentally shot and killed his 7-month-old son with a pellet rifle at their home in Maololo, Ga-Mashabela village, Sekhukhune District in Limpopo.
Police attended to the complaint after the child’s parents rushed him to the local clinic where he was certified dead on arrival. This is after he suffered a gunshot to the chest.

Both parents were interviewed and it was revealed that the child’s father was hunting for birds with a pellet rifle next to their home when the child was accidentally shot. The suspect was arrested and charged with murder and police have confiscated the pellet rifle.

The investigation is continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers has condemned the incident.
USE OF PELLET RIFLES DISCOURAGED
“The communities need to practice safety at all times when handling these types of weapons,” concluded Major General Scheepers.
The suspect will appear before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 25 April 2023.
