Limpopo NPA have confirmed that popular musician Shebeshxt is in custody on charges of attempted murder, assault, damage to property, and discharge of a firearm.

Real name, Lehlogonolo Chauke, Shebeshxt appeared at the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court on Monday where he was denied bail. The case has been postponed to 14 June for further investigations.

The NPA also denied rumours that the artist was sentenced to seven years imprisonment. On Monday a statement from a parody account on Instagram shared a fake news statement alleging that he had been convicted.

“The accused appeared today in Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court, on Cas242/22, Assault GBH and case 243/22 assault GBH, Malicious Injury to Property. Case no B100/2023 these three cases were dealt with at once for purposes of the bail application,” said the NPA.

“Matters were on the roll today for purposes of judgment on the bail application. Bail has been refused, and the matters have been postponed to 14 June 2023 for further investigations.

“For the dockets to be pursued by the Senior Public Prosecutor and a decision on the forum to hear the matter, if they can be consolidated in terms of section 81 of the Criminal Procedure Act. J88 and witness statements are still outstanding.”

“He ( Shebeshxt ) had another matter for bail application in another Court, case no A109/2023. Charged with 02 counts of Discharge of a firearm in a built up area or any public place. He abandoned bail application, and the matter has been postponed for ballistic investigations until 12 June 2023.”

The rapper’s music videos have more than 1 million views on YouTube. He is a popular figure and role model to some young people in South Africa.
