Polokwane City have gained promotion back into the DStv Premiership to make it three teams from Limpopo in top flight football. City sealed the promotion on the last day of the season after a 4-0 win against Pretoria Caillies at Old Peter Mokaba in Polokwane on Sunday.

Rise and Shine were relegated from the Premiership division at the end of the 2019/20 season. The club came into the last day of the season in position three behind Casric Stars and Cape Town Spurs. But both Spurs and Casric drew their respective matches which allowed City to go top of the log.

Club Chairman Johnny Mogaladi says the promotion is for all people of Limpopo.

“What I can promise the people of Limpopo is that I don’t want to be a yo-yo team. I don’t want to come back and go, no,” he told the media.
“But we need their support and encouragement. We need to build this team together, this team belongs to the people of Limpopo.

“I am so excited right now, I don’t know whether I am coming or going. By the time the game was over I was hiding in the bathroom and People came and told me that the game was over. I was not worried about my team because I knew that we scored four goals,” added Mogaladi.

The club now joins Sekhukhune United and Marumo Gallants who play in the DStv Premiership league. Marumo still needs to fight for their status and will play Swallows in their last match of the season.
