The Province of Limpopo will launch the first ever designated Official Publication Depository [OPD] at the Polokwane City Library.
The OPD will officially be launched by the acting MEC for the Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Ms Mavhungu Lurule Ramakhanya.

The facility is reportedly in line with the Legal Depository Act which provides for the preservation of national documentary heritage through a compulsory system. All publishers are required to ensure the legal deposit of published documents are kept. All published documents will therefore required to be preserved and catalogued on a legal deposit at this library.

FIRST-EVER DESIGNATED OFFICIAL PUBLICATION DEPOSITORY
The publications depository will serve as a centre for promoting public awareness of, and access to, official publications and information held by the government. Also the institutions listed in terms of section 3 of the Reporting by Public Entities Act, 1992. Provide public access to databases and other information sources to which the public may gain access under any law.

Official publications depositories will be entitled to receive a copy published in South Africa. They will also give free access without charge to these documents, and to official publications in electronic format as well as to official online information that is made available to the public.
The launch will also assist in effective usage of the Official Publication Depository. It will take place on Friday, 19 May at Polokwane City Library at Library Gardens in the Capricorn District
