The Netball World Cup trophy touched down at the Maruleng Municipality in Mopani District, Limpopo on Thursday, 8 June. The tour across all provinces is part of the build-up to the first-ever Netball World Cup on African soil. 

The trophy was received in Hoedspruit by local Mayor Tsheko Musolwa together with officials from the Limpopo Department of Sports and the Limpopo Sports Confederation. I will tour all five Limpopo districts until Tuesday, 13 Jun3 2023.

President of Netball SA Cecilia Molokwane was accompanied by MEC for sports in Mpumalanga, Thandi Shongwe. Molokwane spent the last few days in Mpumalanga on the same tour. She has also visited provinces such as Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal since the trophy arrived. 

“It has been a wonderful trip in Mpumalanga, I don’t want to lie,” Molokwane told those who came to witness the special occasion.

“This is the first MEC that woke up with me at 03:00 am and slept at the same time as me at 11 pm. I was well taken care of and I am grateful.”

Molokwane also showed gratitude to all those involved since the tour started two weeks ago. 

OFFICIAL SCHEDULE 

Friday, 9 June 

The tour will start at Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality and then proceed to Greater Giyani Municipality Masingita Mall.

Saturday, 10 June 

The entourage will proceed to Vhembe District and Thulamela Municipal Chambers, respectively. They will then proceed to Azwifarwi Secondary.

Sunday, 11 June 

The trophy tour will take place in Molemole Municipality-Botlokwa Special School. It will be followed by Jack Botes Park in Polokwane then proceed to Lebowakgomo Mall in the Lepelle-Nkumpi Municipality.

Monday, 12 June 

The Sekhukhune District Trophy tour will start at Fetakgomo Tubatse. Followed by Makhuduthamaga, proceed to Ephraim Mogale, Ndlovu Sports Centre then continue to Sekhukhune District Municipal Chamber.

Tuesday, 13 June 

The Limpopo tour will conclude in Waterberg District. It will start with Mokopane Comprehensive School in Mogalakwena Municipality and then continue to Bela- Bela Mall.
