Premier of Limpopo Stanley Mathabatha will lead the commemoration of Youth Day at Mudavula Stadium, Collins Chabane Local Municipality, Vhembe District.
The commemoration is held under the theme: “Accelerating youth economic emancipation for a sustainable future.”
This commemoration is part of the government’s effort to preserve the legacy of the class of 1976. For the key role they played in the struggle against apartheid.
The government has called on today’s youth to awaken the spirit of 1976. Where young people were actively involved in defining their future and the country they wanted.
The year 2023 marks the 47th anniversary of the 1976 uprising where scores of students protested, against others, the use of Afrikaans as a medium of instruction.
The protest started in Soweto and also spread to other parts of the country. Thousands of peaceful protesters were also brutally killed by the apartheid regime.
