A 42-year old Mother together with her 23-year-old son and two cousins have been accused of murder of a Man who allegedly stole their goats in Sekhukhune District, Limpopo. The four will make their first appearance at Groblersdal Magistrate Court on Monday morning.

They are facing charges of kidnapping, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm [ GBH] and murder. The crime was committed at Morarela, on a farm under the Elandskraal policing area on Saturday, 17 June at about 09:05.’

According to the police report, the deceased identified as Funky Hlongwane and his 32-year friend, who is a teacher by profession, were at home when they were allegedly kidnapped by the four suspects at about 07:05. They were being accused of stealing goats belonging to a 42-year old-woman.

The duo were taken to a farm and tied with a long robe and severely assaulted with several weapons including a hammer. The teacher was released afterwards while the suspects continued assaulting Funky Hlongwane. The teacher managed to report the incident to the Police.

MOTHER, SON ACCUDED OF MURDER

Police immediately rushed to the premises. Upon arrival found a 35-year-old victim laying down with serious injuries and unable to talk. Members of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were summoned to the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has described the incident as senseless and brutal. She further applauded the police for arresting the suspects.

“We keep on mentioning that taking law into your own hands is not a solution. Instead it causes unintended results,” concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.
