A 66-year-old Spiritual healer has been arrested in connection with a rape of a 30-year-old woman who was one of his clients during a cleansing ritual. The incident took place at Eldorado village, Maleboho in the Capricorn District on 12 April 2023 at about 21:30.

The old man was nabbed by the members of Seshego SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences [FCS].

According to a police report at this stage, the victim allegedly went to perform a spiritual healing at the suspect’s homestead. He then asked his client if there is anyone who needs to perform a steaming ritual and she volunteered.

The victim went to the bedroom of the Pastor’s son wearing only a blanket. She found the room covered with a cloud of smoke when suspect emerged and started to rape her.

Afterwards, a 30-year-old victim left the room while wearing the suspect’s jacket. She never reported the ordeal until she suffered a mental breakdown and was diagnosed with depression after she tried to commit suicide.

The victim was referred to a relevant facility for mental treatment until she subsequently opened up about the rape incident. The matter was reported to the local police on Thursday, 15 June 2023 and transferred to Seshego FCS for further investigations.

Police swift reaction and meticulous efforts resulted in the suspect being apprehended on Sunday, 18 June. He was at his residence at Eldorado Village in Maleboho. He will appear before the Maleboho Periodical Court on Tuesday 20 June 2023.
