Steve Komphela has been appointed as the new head coach of the DStv Premiership club, Swallows FC. Swallows announced the deal on Sunday, which will see the former Kaizer Chiefs coach take charge of the Birds’ reins from Musa Nyatama. Nyatama will now serve as his assistant coach along with Ditheko Mototo.


The Soweto giants have acted to appoint Komphela on an undisclosed length of contract. Komphela left his assistant role at Mamelodi Sundowns to take charge of the Swallows’ main seat.

“Swallows FC is thrilled to announce the appointment of Coach Steve Komphela as the Head Coach of Swallows FC. He will be assisted by Musa Nyatama together with Ditheko Mototo,” Swallows’ statement reads.

“We want to take Swallows FC to the next level, and we are very excited to have attracted the services of Coach Komphela.

“We appreciate the professional manner in which Mamelodi Sundowns FC managed these negotiations, Coach Musa Nyatama also remains a special pillar of our team and his willingness to learn and work closely with an experienced Coach like Steve Komphela is highly appreciated.”

Meanwhile, Sundowns have also wished Komphela success with his new job.

“Steve Komphela served Mamelodi Sundowns with loyalty and devotion and will always be a member of the Mamelodi Sundowns Family. We also wish him everything of the best,” said Sundowns Chairman Tlhopie Motsepe.
