The Limpopo Baobabs netball team have been promoted to the Telkom Netball League division one. This comes after a 55-37 win over the KZN Kingdom Stars in the promotion/relegation game on Friday. The Stars are now relegated and will feature in Division Two next year.

The Baobabs also claimed the Telkom Netball League Division 2 title with an emphatic 65-40 win over the Western Cape Tornados on Friday. They were exceptional in the round-robin stages, winning 13 out of the 14 games they played.

Head coach Emily Mathosa says she was proud of the achievements of the team. 

“I am very proud of the Girls. They have shown hunger from the beginning until the last game,” she said.

“It’s been great, I don’t want to lie, it’s something that nobody ever expected. But I am glad that we are changing narratives as I always say we want to bring different looks into the Baobabs. 

“I am actually happy that we made history. It never happened in our province. This is the first time. We just actually have to carry on raising the flag and make sure that we make them proud,” she said.

On what the Baobabs expect in the Telkom Netball League division one. 

“I am and I believe they [players] are because we have been in this division for a long time. We had been to the semifinals but not won and just am glad that things turned around this year and we actually pulled through from the semifinals and the final. We believe we are ready but we just need to prepare ourselves.”

Meanwhile, the Jaguars lifted their sixth Telkom netball league trophy. They beat the Crinums 59-51 in the Final at Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria, Gauteng.
