Police in Tubatse, Limpopo have arrested a 31-year-old stepfather suspect for allegedly killing a 1-year-old baby girl and assaulting the girlfriend on Sunday, 09 July.

It is reported that the police received a complaint from Bothashoek Village outside Burgersfort in Sekhukhune District on Sunday about the suspected assault of a minor by her stepfather.

Upon arrival of the Police at the scene of the crime it is reported that a 1-year-old girl was found lying on a sofa unconscious without pulses. Some bruises on the face and she was certified dead on the scene by the paramedics.

It is alleged that the suspected stepfather assaulted the victim in the absence of the mother with an unknown object. It is reported that the 28-year-old mother left the deceased with her 3-year-old sister at about 18:00 to search for the boyfriend at a tavern in Praktiseer.

According to the information available at this stage, it alleged that the suspect returned back home before the girlfriend and subsequently assaulted the deceased. It is reported that the girlfriend also returned back home at about 20:45. On her arrival the suspect allegedly accused her of stalking him and ultimately assaulted her in the presence of their neighbours.

STEPFATHER KILLS 1-YEAR-OLD BABY IN LIMPOPO

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has Condemned the incident.

“Anyone who acts violently against vulnerable groups deserves to be brought before the Court of the Law,” concluded General Hadebe.

The suspect is expected to appear before Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 11 July. He is facing charges of assault and murder domestic- violence related.
