A 36-year-old man from Giyani, Limpopo was shot and killed along the Hlaneki gravel road while on his way to fetch firewood.

 It is alleged that the victim was driving a Blue Toyota bakkie with two passengers and were about to collect the firewood that were already packed at Hlaneki Village. A group of unknown suspects emerged and fired shots at their vehicle. Thereafter, the suspects drove off in a sky-blue Toyota Corolla. The driver sustained gunshot wounds and the passengers escaped unhurt.

The incident took place on Saturday, 22 July 2023 at around 17:00.

According to the information it is alleged that the driver was hired to fetch firewood at the said area. The Police and emergency personnel were summoned to the scene.

On their arrival at the crime scene, they found the driver still in the motor vehicle, with gunshot wounds. He was certified dead at the scene by EMS and was identified as Obey Ngoveni (36) from N’wamankena village.

MAN SHOT AND KILLED GOING TO FETCH FIREWOOD

The Police have opened a case of murder for further investigation. The motive for the attack and subsequent killing is unknown.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has called upon the Community to assist by providing information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects.

The Police at Giyani in Mopani District have also activated a massive manhunt for the suspects.
