The Oldest athlete to run the Comrades Marathon Johannes Mosehla survived an accident scare this past weekend and luckily got off unharmed. The 81-year-old was traveling to the 28th Foskor Marathon in Namakgale, Limpopo where he ran the 21k race.
Mosehla was traveling from Jane Furse with an arranged common transport organised by four other runners.

But they nearly could not make it after their vehicle skipped a stop sign and hit the rocks. An 11-year-old was the only person who reportedly suffered injuries.
The rest of the people were taken for normal check-ups at a nearby hospital, including Mosehla.

“The car we were traveling with failed to stop [at an intersection],” he told Limpopo Chronicle. “It then hit rocks on the other side. It was only the child that was bleeding but everyone else was fine., But the car was beyond repair,” he said.
“They took the car so we had to arrange lifts,” he said before his race on Saturday.
Mosehla has become a hero to many after he ran an impressive 9:26:10 to unseat the legendary Wally Hayward for the Comrades Marathon’s oldest runner in history.
He was recently honoured by the SA Run4cancer Ultra Marathon organisers who decided to name the medals of this year’s race after him. Some of the races he is still set to compete in this year include the Knysna Forest Marathon in August. The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon and the SA Run4cancer Marathon in October.
