A 26-year-old man was arrested for the attempted rape of a five-year-old baby girl at Northam, Limpopo on Saturday. The incident occurred at around 23:00.

According to the information, the complainant who is the victim’s mother was sleeping in a separate room, when she heard her daughter screaming for help.

Upon checking on her she saw a guy who is known to her, undressed and her daughter was also naked.

The suspect threatened the victim’s mother before he ran out and disappeared in the dark.

The incident was immediately reported to the Police. A case of attempted rape was opened for further investigation.

The suspect was traced and arrested for rape. He will appear before Northam Magistrate’s Court soon.

Meanwhile, in Phalaborwa, a 25-year-old woman was raped by an unknown man who offered her a transport from Phalaborwa to Makhushane. While on the way, the driver deviated from the trip and took a road towards the Industrial area.

He stopped the vehicle, threatened her with a firearm, and tied her with ropes. The accused raped her, and also robbed her of money in her handbag and thereafter threw it away and captured a photo of the victim. He then fled leaving the victim at the scene.

Police were alerted and opened a case of rape and robbery.
