The first-ever Limpopo Student Film Festival is set to captivate film enthusiasts and students alike on 5 and 6 December 2023, starting at 10 AM each day. The groundbreaking event promises to bring together students, budding filmmakers, and industry professionals in an inspiring celebration of creativity and storytelling.

Festival director, Johnpheko Mapakhela, emphasized the significance of this event and explains the idea behind hoisting the festival in Limpopo. 

“Hosting a film festival in Limpopo is vital for nurturing local talent and diversifying the South African film landscape,” he says. 

“This festival offers students a unique platform to showcase their work, learn from industry professionals, and open doors to future careers in film.” 

The event is set to feature a series of masterclasses led by some of the industry’s finest professionals. These workshops will engage learners and provide valuable insights into the world of film, enabling students to hone their craft.


The festival will also feature screenings of student filmmakers’ work from various regions, offering diverse perspectives and creative storytelling. It will culminate in an awards ceremony, recognizing outstanding achievements in various categories. This includes Directing, Film, Sound Design, Lighting and also Best Cinematographer. 

The opportunity to win these awards serves as an incentive for student filmmakers. To also push the boundaries of their creativity and produce exceptional work. The National Film and Video Foundation also proudly supports the film festival.
