The MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture in Limpopo Nakedi Kekana on Tuesday officially launched the 2023 Mapungubwe Arts and Cultural Festival and unveiled the line-up. The official launch of the 19th instalment took place at Meropa Casino in Polokwane.

‘It was attended by amongst others the Mayor of Modimolle-Mookgophong: Sechele Sebolai and the Mayor of Lepelle Nkumpi: Cllr. Merriam Molala. CEO of Limpopo Tourism Agency Moses Ngobeni and CEOs of the State-Owned Enterprises. The main event will take place on Saturday, 16 December 2023.

This year, the activities will commence in this festive season to March 2024 as follows: Cultural Carnival, 08 December 2023. Theatre theatre, Drama and Poetry nights: 10-11 December 2023.

The Mapungubwe Craft Market and Exhibition will take place from 9-16 December 2023 while the comedy night is on 14 December.
Choral Festival will commence from 12-17 February 2024, Mapungubwe Film and Video symposium from 19-24 February 2024. The Mapungubwe Youth and Diva Festival will take place on 02 March 2024 while the Marathon and Rugby Cup will take place on 09 March 2024.

“This is deliberate. It will not be a one-week affair. The programme will run until the financial year ends. Solely to ensure that our whole province in the sectors of Sport, Arts and culture benefit from the programme,” said MEC Kekana.

“It is not only a Mapungubwe of singers and artists in the entertainment industry but for the whole sector.

The department has also announced that many other artists will be unveiled during the course of this week. This also includes the venue of the concert which was not announced during the launch.
