Traffic law enforcement operations has resulted in over 118 drunk drivers arrested in Limpopo so far since the beginning of the Festive season. Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani recently launched the Festive Season Road Safety campaign and urged drivers to take extra precautions.

The law enforcement agencies have been deployed at critical points across the province. The Vhembe district has the highest number of arrests with 35 followed by Sekhukhune with 28. Both Waterberg and Mopani have 23 while the Capricorn District only has nine arrests.

Additionally, a 33-year-old male driver of a white Volkswagen Polo hatchback was also arrested for speeding. He was caught driving 188km/h on a 120 zone on the N1 freeway near Mokopane.

Meanwhile, high traffic volumes are expected to increase significantly on major routes, including the N1 and R101, northbound from Gauteng towards Polokwane, and business districts across the province.

Traffic law enforcement officers have been deployed at critical points to manage the flow of traffic and curb traffic violations.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution, be courteous to each other, and maintain a safe following distance at all times.
