A 40-year-old male driver was arrested on Sunday, 7 January 2024, for travelling at the speed of 225km/h on a 120 zone on the N1 in Bela Bela, Limpopo. The speedster was caught on the N1 highway driving a white Audi Q7 SUV

He is scheduled to appear before the Magistrate’s court today, 8 January 2024, on a charge of reckless driving.

The incident brings the total number of speeding arrests made in the province since the beginning of December 2023 to 19.


Breakdown of arrests per district:
Waterberg: nine drivers, with the highest clocking 225km/ on a 120 zone
Capricorn: eight drivers, with the highest clocking 185km/h on an 80-zone
Mopani: two drivers, with the highest clocking 146km/h in a 60 zone.
Sekhukhune and Vhembe: No arrests

“These arrests are testimony to the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety’s commitment to zero tolerance of reckless drivers who endanger other road users,” said the department.

Meanwhile, Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani has been conducting law enforcement operations during the festive season. Last week, she joined the operations at Motetema, Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality, under Sekhukhune District.

MEC Radzilani was joined by Cllr Ramongana Nkitseng who was acting Mayor of Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality. The Operation is part of the Festive Season Road Safety Campaign that has been conducted throughout the Province, to ensure compliance on the roads.

MEC Radzilani used the moment to encourage motorists to continue being patient on the roads. Take extra precautions and take regular rest during their trips within the Province.
