Police in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo have arrested a Man from Ga-Mphahlele who allegedly assaulted his heavily pregnant wife with a hot iron. The incident took place at Seleteng Ga-Mphahlele, on Friday, 02 February at around 05:00.

According to information, the couple had an argument about a cellphone. In the process, the victim’s husband plugged an electric iron and started to assault her with it.

The Woman sustained injuries on both her hands and later fled the scene. She was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. Police were alerted about the incident, and a case of Assault GBH was opened against the suspect.  He was traced and arrested the same day at Ga-Mphahlele Makurung on Friday, 02 February.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo SAPS Major General Jan Scheepers has strongly condemned the incident. He advised women to stand by each other to fight against such incidents.

“You are most encouraged to report these cases without feeling sorry for someone who abuses you,” said Major General Scheepers.  The suspect will appear before Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 05 February 2024.

Meanwhile, Police in Mopani District through multi-disciplinary joint operation have recovered a stolen motor vehicle and a prohibited firearm with ammunition at Maake policing area. 

It is reported that members of the Illegal Mining Task Team during their tour of Operation Vala Umgodi at around 16:50 have spotted a white motor vehicle Mazda Rustler with GP registration numbers on a parking lot at Maake Plaza. 

Upon searching the vehicle and the driver, the police discovered that the suspect, a 27-year-old male person, was in possession of a firearm loaded with eleven live ammunition. Preliminary investigation also revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen at Ekangala police station in Gauteng province in November 2023.
