Four suspects have been arrested after three stolen motor vehicles were intercepted before they could be smuggled out of the country via the Beitbridge border post in Musina, Limpopo. The incident took place on Tuesday, 06 February 2024.

The suspects were arrested during separate incidents after they were stopped at the vehicle control point.

Police discovered that the drivers of all three vehicles were in possession of fraudulent documents. The vehicles are a Ford Ranger (with one passenger), an Audi Q7, and a Mercedes Benz Actros truck. The VIN numbers were also altered

A preliminary investigation indicated that the vehicles were reported stolen in Gauteng province.

STOLEN VEHICLES RECOVERED AT THE BEITBRIDGE BORDER POST IN LIMPOPO 

Limpopo Acting Provincial Commissioner of Major General Jan Scheepers commended the officers for their vigilance and dedication.

“The swift action of police officers stationed at the Beitbrige border post in Musina has resulted in the interception of three motor vehicles before they could be smuggled out of the country on Tuesday, 06 February 2024. Four suspects aged between 28 and 64 were arrested.

“This is a testimony to the ongoing efforts of the SAPS to clamp down on vehicle theft and cross-border crimes,” said Major General Scheepers.

The four suspects consisting of two South Africans and two foreign nationals are expected to appear before Musina Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 08 February. They are facing charges of possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles.
