A 56-year-old taxi boss was gunned down at Ga-Mogotlane Village, Moletlane in Limpopo on Saturday night. The incident took place at about 19:30.

According to the information, the victim was driving towards the local Police Station when unknown suspects driving a white taxi and white sedan motor vehicle opened fire on his vehicle. The suspects then fled the scene.

Police responded to the scene together with the emergency medical services. The victim’s body was found inside his vehicle. During initial investigations, Police recovered several spent cartridges for rifles and pistols at the scene.

All the relevant role players attended the scene including the local Detectives and SAPS Taxi Violence Task Team. At this stage, the motive for the shooting is unknown, however, It may be linked to the ongoing conflict within the taxi industry.

Limpopo police have since intensified investigations to trace and arrest armed suspects. Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the senseless killing.

“The Task Team established to hunt down the perpetrators is already hard on the ground. We hope to have a breakthrough soon.

“We urge the public to come forward with information that can assist in the apprehension of the suspects,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
