South African motorists including in Limpopo should brace themselves for significant petrol and diesel prices increases from Wednesday, 6 March. This comes after the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) has confirmed the price hikes.

Unleaded petrol of both grades [93 and 95] will rise by R1.21 a litre.

Diesel will increase by R1.05 a litre, while 0.005% sulphur will increase by R1.18 a litre. The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will be hiked by 64c a litre. The maximum retail price for LP gas is going up by 41c per kg.

WHY THE INCREASE IN THE PETROL AND DIESEL PRICE IN MARCH

Spokesperson of the department Robert Maake said the increase is due to the weaker rand against the US dollar.

“The slate levy remains unchanged at 0 cents per litre,” he said. “Transnet pipeline has decommissioned the Kroonstad pipeline from December 2023, affecting fuel transport in four district zones”.

It is the second consecutive month the price of fuel has been increased.
