Annually, 24 March is dedicated to creating awareness about the impact TB has on health and the socio-economic environment locally and globally. The government has a multisectoral approach to the fight against TB as it was with COVID-19 by availing resources and actions for TB diagnosis.

Health MEC Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, representing Premier Stanley Mathabatha, delivered a keynote address. She passionately urged the community to end discrimination against TB patients and instead provide them with unwavering support to adhere to their treatment plans.

“We indeed need to and shall defeat TB; we will defeat HIV/AIDS,” she said.
“As Limpopo, we have urged our young people to take the lead in the fight against both TB and HIV/AIDS.
We all have a responsibility to help protect our children from these diseases. We also have to use them as change agents through their youthful energies.

“Young people must be change agents so that they can play a leading role in informing, educating and mobilising other young people, adults, families and their respective communities to do what is necessary to help end these epidemics,” added Ramathuba.

“We rely on young people, in particular, to achieve the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals.

“This event takes place in an environment dominated by young people, and with the significant presence of these young people, we are hopeful that we will win the war against TB. Side by side we should forge ahead in fighting against TB and HIV/AIDS.”
