The Thabazimbi Regional Court has sentenced a 43-year-old uncle to life imprisonment for raping his 11-year-old Niece at Snymanslaagte Rooibok kraal. The incident took place on 11  December 2020 within the Cumberland policing area.

During the court trial, it was found that on 11 December 2020, at around 14:30, the accused called his niece to his bedroom.

When she entered, he immediately locked the door. He then raped the young girl and then then released her afterwards. 

The victim’s grandmother noticed blood stains on her underwear while she was bathing her. She questioned her, and the victim informed her grandmother about the ordeal. The victim’s mother was also notified when she returned home. A case of rape was registered. 


The docket was transferred to Thabazimbi Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, and was assigned to Sergeant Mohlatlego Modubi for further investigations.

Following thorough investigations, the suspect was arrested. On Tuesday 2024/04/30, the accused was found guilty on a rape charge and was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Commissioner of Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the sentence. 

“We applaud the investigating officer, and everyone who participated in the investigation of the case which resulted in the successful prosecution” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
