Ga-Kgapane Clinic in Modjadjiskloof temporarily closed over land dispute

The Limpopo Department of Health has issued a notice informing the community of Ga-Kgapane in Modjadjiskloof that their local clinic will be closed temporarily. It was closed on Friday, 9 June 2023 to allow court processes to unfold. While the department finds another nearby space to relocate the facility.
Their clinic is facing closure after the department was served with papers from lawyers. They claim to represent the rightful owner of the land. They were also given until Friday to close the clinic or face legal action.

The department says investigations are underway. They want to determine how the land on which the clinic is built landed on private hands. They say all land on which their facilities are built are owned by government departments and are not privately owned.
Spokesperson for the department Neil Shikwambana told Capricorn FM News that there are already engagements between the Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure and the land claimant. The situation has also left residents frustrated.
Shikwambana has indicated that their priority is to ensure the community of Ga-Kgapane gets easy access to quality healthcare services.
GA-KGAPANE CLINIC IN MODJADJISKLOOF CLOSED FOR THE TIME BEING
On Thursday, a councillor in the Greater Letaba Municipality’s ward 4, Mothipa Monyama called on community members to stand together in ensuring that Kgapane Clinic continues to operate.
Monyama said it’s cruel and inhumane to close down a place that people rely on to receive medical care. He also says the community is of the view that if the land was legally bought, the owner should be refunded.
Monyama further said they will meet with different stakeholders next Monday. They will then provide the community with feedback on Thursday.
