Limpopo comedians Mashabela Galane and Shonisani Muleya, also known as Ashifa Shabba battled it out in a boxing exhibition match at a packed Meropa Casino in Polokwane on Saturday.

The match, which took less than five minutes, was part of the Power to Youth International Boxing Night hosted by the Limpopo Championship Boxing Promotion. The money made by the two comedians on the night will be donated to charity organizations in the province.

There was no winner for the match but true to their characters, the pair kept the crowd entertained.

MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Nakedi Kekana has also congratulated the organisers for a sterling tournament.

“The successful tournament urges the government to work to ensure that the long overdue need to focus on and ensure review of Boxing Regulations is concluded without fail and it is done urgently. The discourse within the broader boxing fraternity regarding the artificial divide between professional and amateur boxing will be among the main focus areas of government so that the two could be intertwined to have seamless transmission to the latter, and produce champions of champions,” she said.

Tournament Organiser Champ Dongola says they are hoping the tournament is the first of many to come.

“We are very happy that at least we managed to deliver. The tournament had been awaited by the province and we are pleased that we managed to bring the government to be able to see what we are doing.

“We want to bring a culture on this particular aspect of Boxing where we can have a tournament once in a quarter so that boxers don’t have to wait too long to fight,” he said.
