MEC Nakedi Kekana opens up on cancer status

Limpopo MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Nakedi Kekana has for the first time publicly disclosed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Kekana has recently been absent from department duties with MEC for Education Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya standing in as Action MEC. Limpopo Premier Stanley Mathabatha also made a plea during the Netball World Cup trophy tour in Polokwane that people keep her in their prayers.

Kekana is also the provincial treasury of the ANC in Limpopo. During the launch of the 2023 SA Run4Canser Marathon in June Furse on Tuesday, Kekana told those in attendance how she found out about her status.

“Just a few weeks before the budget speech, from personal space I normally do annual tests. So every year I have gone for the tests, they have always told me everything was normal,” she said.

MEC NAKEDI KEKANA REVEALS BREAST CANCER STATUS

“But to my surprise this year when I went for mammogram annual tests, I found out that there is a tumour on my breast. It was also an indication of an early stage of breast cancer. So that is why I feel some of the things are just God-sent.

“When we came up with this concept and included it in the budget speech. Less did I know that I am also affected,” added Kekana.
