Concerns over Undocumented Truck driver in Musina crash

Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani has raised concerns over allegations that the truck driver involved in the Musina Bus accident is an undocumented foreigner. On Monday, Radzilani visited the accident scene that occurred at R572 road between Venetia Mine and Musina on Sunday.

She was joined by the Executive Mayor of Vhembe, Dowelani Nenguda, the Mayor of Musina Local Municipality, Cllr Godfrey Mawela and the Senior General Manager at Venetia Mine, Ntokozo Ngema.

The visit was able to establish that 20 people perished on the scene, and two passed on at the hospital bringing the number to 22. The bus company has been identified to be belonging to Hope Diamond Transport. Adevastating collision occurred between a bus transporting mine workers from Venetia Mine and a truck on the R572.

“The allegations were raised before me here that the driver of the truck is a foreigner who was operating on the road without the legal documents. Something which we want to strongly condemn. We are not going to tolerate something which also puts the lives of our people in danger,” said Radzilani.

The entourage also proceeded to the Venetia Mine offices to get a full report regarding the accident.

Meanwhile, the Premier of Limpopo Stanley Mathabatha has also sent his condolences to the victims.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families who have been affected by this horrific accident,” said the Premier in a statement on Monday.

 “We cannot begin to comprehend the pain and sorrow that you are experiencing during this unimaginable time of loss. Please know that the entire province stands with you in solidarity, offering our support, love, and strength.”

“To the survivors of this tragic incident, we send our heartfelt wishes for a swift and complete recovery. We hope that you find solace in the knowledge that you are not alone. That the entire community is here to support you in your healing journey,” said Premier Mathabatha.
