Unisa to confer Honorary doctorate on Bishop Engenas Lekganyane

UNISA will on Friday confer an honorary doctorate of Philosophy in Theology [Honoris Causa] on St. Engenas Zion Christian Church leader Bishop Engenas Joseph Lekganyane.
The event will take place during a graduation ceremony at the Unisa Muckleneuck Campus in Pretoria, Gauteng.

The University decided to honour the spiritual head of the St. Engenas Zion Christian Church of Moria during its council meeting on 29 June 2023.
This is in recognition of his outstanding achievements and globally impactful societal contributions to peace, social cohesion, and social capital. As well as successful and resilient African-initiated institutions in the 21st Century.
This includes the primacy of peace as a principle and value for human interaction and spirituality. The foregrounding of African-conscious theology and philosophy. Anchoring the moral fibre of society in our world today.
Promotion of social cohesion, social capital and social justice and capacity to build and rebuild large, complex and resilient institutions.
UNISA TO CONFER BISHOP ENGENAS JOSEPH LEKGANYANE WITH HONORARY DOCTORATE
Chancellor of Unisa, former President Dr Thabo Mbeki will preside over the ceremony. The Principal and Vice Chancellor of Unisa, Professor Puleng LenkaBula will deliver the keynote address.
Amongst the dignitaries attending the graduation ceremony will be the South Africa Deputy President Paul Mashatile, the Premier of Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi and former Premier of Gauteng David Makhura.
Bishop Engenas Joseph Lekganyane was installed as the Spiritual Leader and Bishop of the St. Engenas Zion Christian Church in 1975. He has also become the custodian of the values and norms of the church as laid down by his predecessors.
The Church was founded in 1924 by Bishop Engenas B. Lekganyane, the grandfather of Bishop Engenas Joseph Lekganyane.
When the Founder of the Church passed on, He was succeeded by His Son, Engenas Joseph Lekganyane, the father of Engenas Joseph Lekganyane in 1949.
