MEC Lerule-Ramakhanya activates the 2024 SGB Elections

Limpopo MEC for Education Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya on Monday outlined the state of readiness for the SGB Elections in the province.

The 2024 School Governing Body (SGB) elections will take place from 01-31 March 2024 throughout the province.

The SGB members are made up of parents, educators, non-teaching staff and learners [Grade 8 or higher]. Their term of office is one year for learners and three years for all other members.

School principals are automatic [ex-officio] members of the SGB. Parents, guardians, learners and teachers in all public schools have to elect candidates who will ensure that schools run efficiently.

TIME FOR THE LIMPOPO SCHOOL GOVERNING BODY, SGB ELECTIONS

The newly elected SGB will continue the work of promoting school excellence. Ensuring that schools run smoothly and efficiently, therefore making a reality of the pronouncement by MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya that “Accelerating access to quality education – 2024 the year of academic excellence”.

“The major role of SGBs is to focus on the proper governance of schools and effective learning and teaching. When SGBs run schools properly, the results will be improved including learner performance,” said MEC Lerule-Ramakhanya.

Lerule-Ramakhanya also thanked the outgoing SGBs, for their time, support and dedication they gave to the schools for the past three years.

“Parents are encouraged to go to their children’s schools and elect suitable candidates with leadership skills to ensure improved quality education, good governance and accountability in all the schools,” she emphasised.

MAVHUNGU LERULE-RAMAKHANYA LAUNCHES SCHOOL-BASED VOTER EDUCATION DRIVE

Meanwhile, Lerule-Ramakhanya together with IEC and Home Affairs also launched a school-based voter Education Drive on Monday. The initiative is aimed at concertizing learners about the importance of democracy by exercising their rights to vote

The target is mainly grade 11 and 12 learners in high-enrolled schools. The drive will run in all the schools in the 10 education districts in the Province to also ensure that no eligible learner is left behind. IEC officials and Life Orientation Educators will visit more than 200 school-identified schools from Monday next week.
