Learners involved in a Bus accident in Bela-Bela

Learners from Modderspruit Primary School in Bela-Bela, Limpopo were involved in a bus accident on their way from school on Friday.

It is alleged that the busā€™s brakes failed, and the bus hit a brick wall at Bela-Bela Aventura; injuring learners. Out of the 38 learners involved, one was transferred to Mokopane Hospital. The other one was taken to a hospital in Pretoria.

The rest of the learners were treated for shock and discharged. No fatalities have been recorded in this accident.

MEC SADDENED BY THE MODDERSPRUIT PRIMARY SCHOOL BUS ACCIDENT

The Limpopo MEC for Education, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has also wished a speedy recovery to 38 learners. She expressed her sadness after learning that learners from the school were involved in the accident.

“We are at a loss for words to have learnt that this high number of learners have been involved in this accident,” she said.

“It is unforgivable for transport service providers to use unroadworthy vehicles while ferrying our learners. As a department, we practice zero tolerance regarding those who disobey the rules of the road and gamble with young lives. We also pray for each learner to recover speedily.ā€

Psycho-social support will also be offered to the school community in light of this accident.
