As expected, the match intensity was high given the magnitude of the match. Both clubs created a few chances but failed to convert. It took a stunning free-kick by former Kaizer Chiefs winger Edmore Chirambadare to give the home side a 1-0 lead going into the half-time break. Striker Wonderboy Makhubu doubled the lead four minutes into the second-half break.
