SAFA appoint Limpopo tactician as coach of national under 20 team

Tzaneen-born coach Raymond Mdaka has been appointed as the head coach of the South African U-20 Men’s National Team, Amajita. The highly qualified coach recently led Marumo Gallants to the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals. They lost to Tanzania side Young Africans.

His immediate task will be during a camp on 21- 28 March 2024 at the SAFA Technical Centre in Johannesburg. The camp will be the first of many ahead of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers in September 2024.

“We are looking forward to building a great team,” said Mdaka.

“We have selected players that are currently doing very well in their respective leagues. There is a comprehensive plan for the next two years.

“Following the SAFA Methodology workshop, which was hosted in January 2024, we have a very good understanding of the mandate set for us as the U20 national team,” he said.

“We are confident that we will be able to deliver on it. We are very excited about the first camp where we have called up 40 players.”

Mdaka will be working alongside Donald Mojaki, Karabo Mogudi and former Bafana Bafana international Reneilwe Letsholonyane. The coaches form part of the technical team under the guidance of SAFA Technical Director Walter Steenbok.
