A referee is amongst three match officials suspended by SAFA in Limpopo for soliciting a R1800 bribe. Percy Murei [MAIN PICTURE] and his assistant referees Rivhathihi Malima and Vhuhwavho Mathuli were assigned to officiate a SAFA Vhembe Stream F match in Vuwani on Saturday.
Masakona Real Citizens, who are the log leaders, were scheduled to play Vuwani United Sports Academy.

It is said Murei and his officials called Masakona team owner a day before the match. They demanded that he pay R 600 to each official for them to sway the game in his team’s favour. But the club owner reported the officials to SAFA who decided to take swift action.
In a letter sent to the three officials on Monday, SAFA has placed them on suspension with immediate effect.
A MATCH REFEREE HAS BEEN SUSPENDED IN LIMPOPO FOR SOLICITING A BRIBE
“Following the allegations of acts of misconduct relating to match-fixing, unethical conduct and soliciting bribes that took place (in Vuwani) on Saturday, 11 May 2024 prior to the league match involving Vuwani United Sports Academy and Masakona Real Citizens, SAFA Vhembe is left with no other option but to suspend you with immediate effect from officiating or participating in any of our official matches pending the Disciplinary hearing on the matter on a date still to be decided,” said SAFA.
“SAFA Vhembe stands for integrity in soccer and our clubs should have confidence in the way the league is run. Having clean league competition is our greatest asset.
“Our soccer matches should not be decided on the gambling market but on the soccer fields. We tackle match-fixing, unethical conduct, and any corrupt activity head-on, by imposing a zero tolerance policy.”
