The second edition of Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality [FTLM] Mayoral Tournament came to an end this past weekend at the Mapodile Sports Complex in Longtill, Steelpoort. The tournament was officially launched earlier this year at the Sekhukhune based Municipality.
The tournament featured sporting codes such as football, netball and pool table where local teams battled for the first prizes.

The Annual FTLM Mayoral Cup Tournament is a brainchild of FTLM Mayor, Eddie Maila. It came into inception last year intending to promote sports participation within the municipality. This year saw DStv Premiership side Sekhukhune United also in attendance led by legend Alex Bapela and some players.
“We came up with this programme upon realising there is huge talent in Fetakgomo-Tubatse,” Mayor Maila told journalists.
MAYOR EDDIE MAILA DELIGHT WITH THE SUCCESS OF THE SECOND FETAKGOMO TUBATSE LOCAL MUNICIPALITY
“There are young talented football and Netball players that we believe if they are given an opportunity to play here, they can be identified. As you can see there is Sekhukhune United. We also extended an invitation to other big clubs but unfortunately, they did not make it due to other commitments.
“The intention as I said is to identify young talented soccer players and Netball players to play with these other national teams. We know very that there is a lot of talent in Tubatse but unfortunately our young players are unable to access these other centres where they can show their talent. So that is the reason behind this tournament.”
