2024 Election final results officially confirmed

On Sunday, the Independent Electoral Commission [IEC] confirmed the 2024 election final results as the ruling party ANC lost its majority.

The ANC received only 40.18 percent votes in Wednesday’s election for the first time since the end of apartheid in 199. They now need to make a deal with other parties to form a coalition government.

A record 27.7 million South Africans registered to vote but only 16.2 million votes were cast on election day. This resulted in a voter turnout of 58.64 percent—the lowest ever in South Africa’s 30-year democratic history.

The ANC managed enough votes in five out of nine provinces: Limpopo [74 percent], the Eastern Cape [62 percent], North West [59 percent], Free State [53 percent], and Mpumalanga [52 percent].

However, In the Northern Cape they received [49 percent] and Gauteng [36 percent] and will also need to form a coalition government. The DA will continue to govern the Western Cape with 53 percent.

In KwaZulu-Natal, the MK received the highest number of votes with 46 percent while the ANC managed only 18 percent.

Looking at the results, Gauteng was the most closely contested election. The seats in the provincial legislature will be made up as follows:
