Giyani Municipality offices remain closed after fire incident

The Greater Giyani Municipality, Mopani have confirmed that their employees will not report to work until next week following the fire incident on Tuesday.
The fire affected a portion of the Municipality’s main building. All employees based at the affected building were subsequently released, with an expectation to return on Thursday.

“Greater Giyani Municipality confirms that a portion of the municipal building at Civic Centre caught fire this morning,” said the Municipality.
“The fire had been put down. However, the cause of the fire is unknown at this point. Employees were safely evacuated,” the statement read.
“A special plan is in place for the residents who want to book or make funeral arrangements. They can contact Ms Somanje at 0723854803 and Ms Sithole at 0762525859 for assistance.”
FIRE INCIDENT AT GIYANI MUNICIPALITY OFFICES FORCES CLOSURE OF OFFICES
The Municipality had anticipated the return date for employees on Friday but has since extended it to Monday, 8 July.
“The Greater Giyani Municipality’s main offices remain closed as forensic investigation continues,” announced the Municipality.
“This means that employees attached to the affected building will not report for duty on Friday, 05 July 2024, as initially reported. They are now expected back to work on Monday, 08 July 2024.”
“Our clients will still be able to access critical services such as booking for grave sites and death certification letters. For grave bookings 072385 4803, for death certification 0762525859 and for street closures 064926 4277. Payment of services may be done electronically using the banking details attached to the account statement.”
