No foul play in Giyani Municipality offices fire incident

A forensic investigation into last week’s fire incident at Greater Giyani Local Municipality has been concluded. The fire at the Municipality offices in Mopani resulted in the Municipality being closed for business since Tuesday.

Employees were sent home after a section of the municipal building at the civic center caught fire.

On Sunday, the Municipality confirmed that the findings indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical-related fault. All offices are now ready to be occupied except for the affected area and all municipal employees are also back at work.

GIYANI MUNICIPALITY PLAYS DOWN SUGGESTIONS OF FOUL PLAY IN THE FIRE INCIDENT

“This serves to notify both employees and residents that the forensic investigation has been concluded,” said the Municipality.

“Whilst we await an official written report, we can safely confirm that the investigators reported that their findings don’t point to any foul play. Effectively, this put to rest all aspersions around the cause of the fire.

“It should also be noted that the offices are now ready to be occupied except for the affected area. In the light of the above, all municipal employees are expected back to work tomorrow, 08 July 2024,” concluded a statement.
