Leeto La Polokwane bus drivers stage a protest

The Leeto La Polokwane bus drivers staged a protest outside their depot in Ladanna, Limpopo on Monday. The drivers are raising concerns about workers’ contracts, pensions and provident funds that are allegedly deducted but not paid to their scheme.

They are also alleging that medical aid benefits are included in their contracts. But it was never implemented.

One of the drivers and shop steward Cedric Nkwana told Capricorn FM News that they have been engaging management about these issues without success. He says the last time money was paid to their scheme was in 2022.

PROTEST BY THE LEETO LA POLOKWANE BUS DRIVERS OVER CONTRACTS AND PENSION FUNDS

The workers are now concerned that two of their colleagues died recently but no money was paid to their families.

He says their three-year contracts are about to lapse, and talks are underway to negotiate 12-year contracts, But they want to enter into new contracts knowing that their concerns are resolved.

“There are a lot of things that they don’t implement,” he told the station. “When we started they were not paying us for holidays, we were just working as normal. But now our main concern is about provident and pension funds.”
