BET Award winner Makhadzi has reacted angrily to the statement issued by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture about her receiving funding. In a statement on Tuesday, the department rejected the assertion that it has not supported Makhadzi.
This follows her comments that she had to borrow money to attend the BET Awards in the USA.

“DSAC has received enquiries from the media about the lack of financial support provided to Makhadzi by the National Government. On her recent trip to the BET Awards in the United States,” said the department.
“Makhadzi made the country proud by receiving a BET Award for Best New International Act. DSAC strongly rejects the assertion that it has not supported Makhadzi.
“Over the past 14 months, Makhadzi has been booked by DSAC to perform in several national engagements, receiving as much as R 230,000,” they said.
But in a video posted on her Facebook on Wednesday morning, the Limpopo artist rubbished the statement by the department.

“They must not cover up people’s names using my name,” said Makhadzi.
“No, they must not do that. I have been receiving calls here, big people calling me that you must stop. You must keep quiet. Don’t respond and all that. I can’t, I must not stop and protect people from manipulating the public using my name. Living saying I received the money? I can’t do that. If they have the power to block me they must do that, it’s okay. They must block me. It’s okay. Whoever has the power to block me is okay.
“I can’t allow it to trend the whole of South Africa wherever the whole world is waiting for the people to be revealed. People are failing to reveal names and they start with me. I have never even eaten a single cent. They think because I am quiet and I can’t speak for myself they are taking advantage because no one can fight for me.
